A Day Of Culture

Proving to everybody that I do, indeed, love my Auntie. In case there was any question.

Yesterday, Auntie, mom and PlusOne went to the grand re-opening of the Currier Museum of Art.

It has been closed for TWO years, undergoing major renovations. Museum officials said that they old museum was so small, they could only show about 5% of their collection.

PlusOne manned the camera, and as long as he didn't use the flash, he could take pictures.

This is a paperweight. Can you guess why PlusOne took a picture of it? That's right, it's a snake. Mom went right by this one. And the one with the spider.

Here is a close-up of another snake paperweight.

This is the minotaur, being killed by Theseus. PlusOne has discovered Greek mythology and thinks it's great.

This is PlusOne with Edgar Degas. He said "frommage" when mom took the picture.

This is PlusOne with Claude Monet.

This is Paul Revere showing PlusOne how to make a silver spoon.

This is Memere's and Auntie's favorite painting.

This is mom's favorite painting. It is a Maxfield Parrish.

We had a lot of fun at the museum. Mom wants to take PlusOne to the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. She thinks he would love the Egyptian section and the Samurai Sword section, among others.

Hope you had fun.

  7. What a great museum! Will they always have "the artists" on hand like that, or were they just there for the grand reopening?

  11. That is such a fantastic little museum. Mommy loves Maxfield Parrish also -- the colors on the paintings are amazing!

It's neat that PlusOne is interested in art so early.

  14. What a wonderful museum ... Exposure to the fine arts is an integral part of being a well-rounded student. PlusOne is on his way.

Mom would have avoided the snake stuff, too.

  15. My humans went to the MFA in Boston in 2006. But they really loved the Isabella Stewart Gardner art museum in Boston.
Come and visit London, the British Museum has lots of Egyptian stuff! And the art galleries aren't bad either!
But my mum and her sister love the Musee D'Orsay in Paris because of the Van Goghs and Pompom's Polar Bear.

  17. Roxy, looks like your people had a grand time at the reopening of the museum. Lots and lots of really interesting things and much variety. Our mom liked the link on the site to the Zimmerman House too, as she is a fan of Frank Lloyd Wright. Hope they make the trip on to Boston sometime, that would wonderful too.
