Why?

Mom wants to know why it is that Lucky and I are loved more than some people's children, and many more people! PlusOne's girlfriend threw him a surprise birthday party yesterday (it was a rousing success) but at the party were two of PlusOne's friends and they can only be described as unloved. (One of them told mom they weren't loved because of the price tag involved. Can you believe it?)

Mom doesn't get it. She knows that she and Dad may not be the most perfect parents (who is) but they sure love PlusOne and he knows it. He is secure in that love. These kids were not. It makes mom mad and sad. I guess mom shouldn't be surprised, if people throw their pets away because they are "difficult" or "untrainable" then it isn't much of a stretch to figuratively throw a child away because they are "different" or "high maintenance".
