Bruises and Fun

Mom wanted to hijack my blog to tell you all about her boring Kenpo Karate Camp. Phooey, I said. I will tell people about it. First, it lasted two hours Friday night. There were about 85 people there and it was a lot of fun. One of the guests was a 7th degree Black Belt from Plymouth, England. The other was a Black Belt from Australia. We don't know what rank he is, but he could kick as high as Mr. Karate! Mr. Karate's mouth dropped open when he saw that.

Friday night they did the "what if you actually get hit" scenario. It was a lot of fun. Mom and Mr. Karate were so jazzed up they had a hard time falling asleep!

The next morning they left the house at 7:30 am! Camp started at 9:00 but Mom and Mr. Karate helped set up. They did karate from 9:00 am til 5:00pm with an hour lunch break. There was no padding on the floor, so mom's legs were wicked tired when it was over. She crawled into her bubble jet tub and bubbled her way to relaxation.

There were, of course, those priceless moments, that make it all worthwhile. Mom was singing to "If I Had A Million Dollars" and she was so into the technique they were doing, that she wicked hammer fisted Mr. Karate in the groin. He dropped to his knees (yes, he had a cup on) and everyone around them burst into laughter. He had elbowed the back of her right hand earlier. It was really swollen, but it has come down a lot. Her teacher gave Mr. Karate the eye when mom showed him. The funny thing is, Mr. Karate hit her in the same place about two months ago, and it just finished healing.

Here are some of Mr. Karate's bruises. See how happy he is despite the fact that he is all bruised up. Oh yeah, no drooling over the body, please, you'll short circuit your computer.

Mom got flipped over in one technique they were doing and smacked her chin right on her partner's knee. OW! That was not fun. But it got better. She was doing one technique against a younger student (he is getting his black belt with PlusOne Wednesday) and you were supposed to grab their groin and pull up and mom looked at him and said "If you grab my groin..." and he stopped right before the move and backed away. Everyone around laughed at that. (There were 97 people there, 55 from mom's studio.)

See Mom's foot. She always gets banged up there. In that same spot. Always. Every couple of months, mom has a bruise there. You know what mom says? "Oh well." See the pinkie toe? She broke that 4 years ago by smashing it into a door frame. It's been crooked ever since.

Anyway, other than the fact that mom crashed like a ton of bricks when she went to bed last night and the fact that she is sore and tired today, she had a great time. Same with Mr. Karate.

The waffles, strawberries, sour cream and brown sugar was really good, but I didn't get any. Life is so unfair.

Happy Mother's Day

PlusOne slept over Memere's Friday night. He decided to stay over a second night and Lucky is looking for him. He will be back for the Annual Mother's Day Waffle Bash.

Mom and Mr. Karate are alive, barely. Mom says she will tell you all about it later. She has already spent about a half hour in the bubble jet tub, bubbling and relaxing her sore and tired but very happy muscles.

Remember to check me out on CCSI at Sassy's Blog.

Lucky & I would like to wish every mom a Happy Mother's Day, with a special Happy Happy going out to Monty's mom. Welcome to the world NewBean!

Pork Lo Mein and Other Things

When mom gets up in the morning, she gets PlusOne out of his bed and into her bed. She puts his clothes on the pillow and takes a shower. There is a mound right behind me that is Lucky. She crawls under the covers. I wait on top for mom to come back in the bedroom. PlusOne, as you can see, goes back to sleep.

Here is the Pork Lo Mein Recipe. Mom got it out of her Fast & Healthy Cooking Magazine from way long ago.

4 oz uncooked angel hair pasta
1 (3/4 lb) pork tenderloin (boneless pork chops work as well)
1 (1 lb) pakage of frozen sugar snap peas, carrots, onions and mushrooms (Mom uses the broccoli, pea pods, carrots and
1/2 c purchased teriyaki baste and glaze (Mom used this then found that Newman's Sesame Ginger Marinade is really, really good)
1/2 tsp ginger

It says to cook the pasta first and keep it warm, mom doesn't do this. She cooks it last.

Cut pork tenderloin in half lengthwise; cut crosswise into 1/2" thk slices.

Spray large nonstick skillet with nonstick cooking spray. Heat over medium high heat until hot. Add pork, cook and stir three minutes.
(Mom marinades the pork in the sesame ginger marinade then throws the marinade and pork in the skillet and cooks it

Stir in vegies, baste & glaze, and ginger. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat, cover and simmer 3 - 5 min or until pork is no longer pink and vegies are crispy.

Here is where mom cooks the pasta.

Add pasta , toss gently to mix. Cook over medium - low heat until thotoughly heated.

The original recipe has 4g of fat, 1g of saturated fat, 50mg of Cholesterol, 860 of sodium (I think the newman marinade is less salty) and 300 calories for 1-3/4 cup serving.

Obviously those more skilled at cooking (than mom) can adapt this to chicken, beef and whatever they want.

Enjoy!

Thursday Thirteen - Random Thoughts & Pictures

1) Dad actually nicknamed mom's best friend "Blondie". She is blonde, and sometimes she acts "blonde". So it fits. hee hee

2) When mom thinks about "Blondie" she thinks of Eli Wallach (The Bad) screaming to Clint Eastwood (The Good) (From The Good, The Bad & The Ugly) "Hey BlonDIE!"

3) Why can't I get down from the table, when I can get up so easily?

4) I don't get nearly enough popcorn.

5) I kick off the toss pillows from the sofa to make myself comfortable.

6) Yes, that is a hedgehog Lucky has. Mom and PlusOne actually thought it was a porcupine. How silly is that.

7) Lucky has to sniff Mr. Hedgehog before she can settle down and go to sleep.

8) Lucky was waiting for PlusOne to get into bed when mom took the pictures of her and Mr. Hedgehog.

9) I am not interested in Mr. Hedgehog at all.

10) Friday night and all day Saturday, mom and Mr. Karate are going to a Kenpo karate Camp. Kenpo all day long. With about 100 of their kenpo brothers and sister. Is that cool or what,.

11) Sunday morning everyone is coming over for home made waffles, and strawberries, sour cream and brown sugar. Everyone always has a great time, and leaves totally stuffed.

12) Mom made her Pork Lo-Mein recipe for dinner Tuesday. Mr. Karate did not come over for dinner, so mom had leftovers. Mom gave them to a cute, awesome 2nd Black Belt I will nickname "Puppy Dog" because he looks like a cute little puppy dog you just want to love (until he runs his karate). He ate it all. There was almost enough for 2 people. He sucked it down like there was no tomorrow.

It is really good. Even Auntie liked it. If you want the recipe, let mom know.

13) Don't expect too much from mom Friday & Saturday night. Usually after Kenpo Camps her brain is on overload. She will be lucky if she gets up on time for breakfast Sunday.

Wanted: One Siamese Cat

Mom needs help. This is mom's best friend (other than Auntie). They have known each other since college Freshman Orientation back in 1980. We will call her "Blondie".

Blondie called mom up this morning and said that her Siamese cat went to the Bridge and Blondie needed another cat. The family was missing her and the cat's sister was missing her. She said the sister was crying and crying and crying. Could mom possible help her find a Siamese cat.

Mom immediately told her to check the pound and also to look up for any Siamese Rescue Websites. Blondie lives in New Hampster with mom. Does anyone know some place that Blondie can go to get another Siamese cat? Blondie wouldn't mind rescuing one at all, she figured you wouldn't find a Meezer cat just anywhere. And since mom knows more about pugs than Meezers, mom has decided to go to the source and ask you for help. Got any ideas?
