Bruises and Fun

Mom wanted to hijack my blog to tell you all about her boring Kenpo Karate Camp. Phooey, I said. I will tell people about it. First, it lasted two hours Friday night. There were about 85 people there and it was a lot of fun. One of the guests was a 7th degree Black Belt from Plymouth, England. The other was a Black Belt from Australia. We don't know what rank he is, but he could kick as high as Mr. Karate! Mr. Karate's mouth dropped open when he saw that.

Friday night they did the "what if you actually get hit" scenario. It was a lot of fun. Mom and Mr. Karate were so jazzed up they had a hard time falling asleep!

The next morning they left the house at 7:30 am! Camp started at 9:00 but Mom and Mr. Karate helped set up. They did karate from 9:00 am til 5:00pm with an hour lunch break. There was no padding on the floor, so mom's legs were wicked tired when it was over. She crawled into her bubble jet tub and bubbled her way to relaxation.

There were, of course, those priceless moments, that make it all worthwhile. Mom was singing to "If I Had A Million Dollars" and she was so into the technique they were doing, that she wicked hammer fisted Mr. Karate in the groin. He dropped to his knees (yes, he had a cup on) and everyone around them burst into laughter. He had elbowed the back of her right hand earlier. It was really swollen, but it has come down a lot. Her teacher gave Mr. Karate the eye when mom showed him. The funny thing is, Mr. Karate hit her in the same place about two months ago, and it just finished healing.

Here are some of Mr. Karate's bruises. See how happy he is despite the fact that he is all bruised up. Oh yeah, no drooling over the body, please, you'll short circuit your computer.

Mom got flipped over in one technique they were doing and smacked her chin right on her partner's knee. OW! That was not fun. But it got better. She was doing one technique against a younger student (he is getting his black belt with PlusOne Wednesday) and you were supposed to grab their groin and pull up and mom looked at him and said "If you grab my groin..." and he stopped right before the move and backed away. Everyone around laughed at that. (There were 97 people there, 55 from mom's studio.)

See Mom's foot. She always gets banged up there. In that same spot. Always. Every couple of months, mom has a bruise there. You know what mom says? "Oh well." See the pinkie toe? She broke that 4 years ago by smashing it into a door frame. It's been crooked ever since.

Anyway, other than the fact that mom crashed like a ton of bricks when she went to bed last night and the fact that she is sore and tired today, she had a great time. Same with Mr. Karate.

The waffles, strawberries, sour cream and brown sugar was really good, but I didn't get any. Life is so unfair.

Yikes on all those bruises! Mr Karate is very cut! We are glad your mom and Mr Karate enjoyed their camp.

Your mom's foot looks as beat up as our mom's, but with our mom, it's from all the running she does. She's very inflexible (despite doing tons of flexibility training), so can't kick to save her life!

Gee Roxy, I will have to take your Mom's word for it that getting all bruised up was a fun way to spend the weekend :) I hope you were able to grab some snuggles when your Mom finally got home :)

Oh wow, sounds like your mom and Mr Karate had lots of fun! I have been thinking of going to karate for a while now. Before I moved I had a dojo right behind my place!

The bubble tub sure sounded like fun - but getting bruised up sounds a little less so, so I think I'll take your word for it! A friend used to do Jiu Jitsu, and it was really fun to watch, and it looked like they were having fun, but I preferred to watch.
