Sewing Room Update

But first, me! After all, this is MY blog!

Mindy and Moe of Team Tabby gave me (us) these two awards, because:

"Roxy and Lucky , are two very friendly pugs and we never tire of following what they and their talented family is up to next."

Isn't that sweet? Aren't they just the nicest. Mom really likes them. I think Moe is very funny, and Mindy is very sweet. It must run in the family!

Anyway, here are the newest sewing room photos. It went from this....

Above this window is done too!

Obviously, mom needs new windows, but at $422.00 a pop (and there are 4 of them), it is gonna be a while. She also needs a new floor, but that will cost even more. Right now, she has to sand the ceiling, mud it again, sand it again, mud it again, sand it one last time and then paint it. Then mom is going to paint the walls. Hopefully, that will be this weekend. Then mom will slowly start buying the door trim and ceiling molding, paint that, and put it up.

The room is 2/3 re-insulated and sheet-rocked, and re-paneled. Mom has 2 more outlets to replace and has to wire up both ceiling lights. She wants to get sewing in there. She wants to finish her Asian quilt and work on that idea she asked you all about earlier in the summer.

A Great Teacher

This is mom's teacher, Mr. M. (with Mr. Karate). He has been her teacher for most of her training. Mom really likes him. He looks really intense, but he is a lot of fun, and has a great attitude and sense of humor. Mom is about 13 yrs older than him and sometimes you can tell that he is younger. He has been a really great teacher to mom (and PlusOne). Whenever mom has had a problem, he has been more than willing to help solve it. He expects a lot from mom, and mom works very hard to teach well for him.

Last week was a rough week for mom. Her heel was hurting and the insert she bought to help it made it worse (it was the wrong one), getting her hips and knees all out of joint. She has a new teaching schedule, Wednesday night Beginners and Intermediates, instead of Monday and Wednesday Intermediates only. (She is helping another teacher out who needed Wednesdays off.) She thought she was doing okay, but then Mr. M. said, "What's the matter? You're not your usual happy, cheery, self?"

Friday night in class mom felt she was doing really terrible at sparring, she kicked right when her partner went to kick and she got his knee on her shin - OUCH! It was just a rough week. So Saturday morning she went up to Mr. M. and said "Do you have a minute?"

He immediately said of course and they went in the office to talk. Well, mom told him how she was feeling discouraged and needed a little positive nudge. He laughed and said, "Believe it or not, I know just how you feel. I have a hamstring that is taking too long to heal and I did something to my shoulder so I can't do push-ups or any outward circular motion and I feel the same way you do. It's been rough for me too!" They talked and it was really good. Mom felt a whole lot better after. Especially after she ordered shin guards! But the long and short of it is, everyone has moments, days, or weeks like that and as Mr. M. said, "It makes you know you are still alive!"
Well, mom is still alive, she got the right inserts, her heel isn't hurting and she got a whole ton of work done on the back porch. Look out world, here she comes!

Verbal Black Belt

Mom, Dad, and PlusOne went to Glendi yesterday. Mom had the lamb shank. It was delicious. PlusOne had some. PlusOne now loves lamb shank. Memere says she makes great lamb shank. Let's see if Memere makes some for PlusOne.

Anyway, a little background before we get into the really juicy story I am going to tell you. NH's governor, John Lynch, is running for re-election. He won re-election before with 75% of the vote. Gov. Lynch has been known to give out his personal cell phone number to people after the various floods and tornadoes that have hit NH in the last couple years. He has worked hard to get people federal FEMA money from these terrible events and people appreciate his hard work and down to earth attitude.

He is being challenged by a Mr. Kinney. Mom has never heard of Mr. Kinney, but she and dad met him today at Glendi. When he and a female worker (wife?) were telling people that "we want to keep NH, NH and not be like Massachusetts."

Now, Dad is from Massachusetts. (Do you see where I am heading with this? Oh yeah, Dad's part Irish!) Dear ole Mr. Kinney gets up to Dad, goes to put his hand on Dad's shoulder and repeats his line and Dad pulls away from him and says "What's wrong with Massachusetts? I was born and raised there." Heh heh! You shoulda been there. Dad went up one side of him and down the other. Mom loved it. She was trying not to laugh out loud. Massachusetts may or may not be great, but there are worse places to live.

You want to run for office against a really popular incumbent, go right ahead. You want NH to remain NH, no problem. You want to have a negative slogan and bash your next door neighbor state, Stop Right There! Go be negative somewhere else. Mom and Dad are sick of it! One elected official (years ago) called all people who worked in Mass and lived in NH parasites. You should have heard Dad on that one!

Then he had the gall to say to Dad, "Why did you move to NH?" Mom answered that one with this. "He had a choice. Stay in Massachusetts alone or move to NH with me!" Mr. Kinney DIDN'T GET IT! I kid you NOT! The female got it, but he didn't. Mom had to repeat it before he finally understood.

It was very funny, because normally Dad is quiet, witty, and very polite. Except for yesterday. Yesterday Dad proved he has a Verbal black belt! Way to go, Dad!

Too much excitement for me. I need a rest.

Beware Ike

Ike is coming and to mom, he looks really scary. We hope all our southern friends are safe and sound and stay that way. We also hope that Galveston is still there tomorrow afternoon.

Meanwhile, I think we will just hunker down and let mom do the worrying.
