A Great Teacher

This is mom's teacher, Mr. M. (with Mr. Karate). He has been her teacher for most of her training. Mom really likes him. He looks really intense, but he is a lot of fun, and has a great attitude and sense of humor. Mom is about 13 yrs older than him and sometimes you can tell that he is younger. He has been a really great teacher to mom (and PlusOne). Whenever mom has had a problem, he has been more than willing to help solve it. He expects a lot from mom, and mom works very hard to teach well for him.

Last week was a rough week for mom. Her heel was hurting and the insert she bought to help it made it worse (it was the wrong one), getting her hips and knees all out of joint. She has a new teaching schedule, Wednesday night Beginners and Intermediates, instead of Monday and Wednesday Intermediates only. (She is helping another teacher out who needed Wednesdays off.) She thought she was doing okay, but then Mr. M. said, "What's the matter? You're not your usual happy, cheery, self?"

Friday night in class mom felt she was doing really terrible at sparring, she kicked right when her partner went to kick and she got his knee on her shin - OUCH! It was just a rough week. So Saturday morning she went up to Mr. M. and said "Do you have a minute?"

He immediately said of course and they went in the office to talk. Well, mom told him how she was feeling discouraged and needed a little positive nudge. He laughed and said, "Believe it or not, I know just how you feel. I have a hamstring that is taking too long to heal and I did something to my shoulder so I can't do push-ups or any outward circular motion and I feel the same way you do. It's been rough for me too!" They talked and it was really good. Mom felt a whole lot better after. Especially after she ordered shin guards! But the long and short of it is, everyone has moments, days, or weeks like that and as Mr. M. said, "It makes you know you are still alive!"
Well, mom is still alive, she got the right inserts, her heel isn't hurting and she got a whole ton of work done on the back porch. Look out world, here she comes!

That is a great post Roxy. Sometimes beans need to take time to reflect on what is important . They also need to connect with other beans and share feelings. It sounds complicated, but beans need other beans . Commiserating makes them feel better ;)
I think cuddles with us would be just as good, but maybe our beans just need other beans sometimes :)
Working hard on a project also helps them to feel better !!!
I'm happy she is happy :)

Woof Roxy

Glad your Mom is still alive. Tell her to stick with the karate thing. It's good exercise but it can be hard on your body sometimes. Our Mom doesn't train formally but she works out with a friend who is a karate instructor. They work on street fighting techniques mostly, self defense and stuff like that. There are days when Mom can hardly move cause she's so sore. Anyway, the cops came looking for you, Roxy, but we told them you slipped across the border to Mexico.

Mom explained to us that sometimes beans have to share their emotional burdens, then things becomes so much lighter. We don't 'get it' but beans are different as you know. We are so glad your mom feels better. Our mom really wants to see how the back porch is coming along. She thinks your mom is awesome! She loved the pictures of the construction of the cutting/ironing table that Millie's mom has.

I know it's been awhile,so sorry, I've been taking care of my Mommy. You posting exactly what my Mommy needed to read, she has been feeling pretty down lately since they still haven't got to the bottom of all this illness thing, but your mom is right: at least she is still alive!

Good for Mom for sticking with it!

My mom has collapsed arches, so she has to wear orthotics-- which Big Brother chewed up about a week after I joined the family. So she feels your pain about footwear!
