Stormy Weather

We've had a lot of fun in New Hampster yesterday. NOT!

It started when mom woke up at 4:00 am and realized there was no power. Dad was up and getting ready for work. Since there was no power, there was no phone. So dad brought mom her cell phone and put it on the night table.

At 6:00 am dad called mom to tell her there was no school. Mom figured she would call work. Guess what? No answer there. So mom called the fax number. See, if the phone system is down it doesn't necessarily mean there is no power. But if the fax doesn't answer, then there is no power. The fax didn't answer. No power at work! The boss said stay home. Mom and PlusOne went to see memere. They had power and heat.

Mom called the house at 11:00 am and the answering machine picked up. Mom had power! Yippie. Mom came back to Lucky and me, and then promptly took us out for a ride. Mom was going to her co-worker's house. Their phone wasn't answering either.

When mom got near the door, the eldest daughter came out and said "Are you here to save us?" They didn't have power or heat and mom's co-worker was wearing a coat, gloves, hat and blanket. They came home with mom and mom got them all warmed up then fed them lunch. Their power finally came back on at 2:30 pm.

This is what the Union Leader has to say about the storm:

A devastating ice storm has left wide areas of central and southern New Hampshire without power as cold weather moves in. Many homes will not have electricity until the middle of next week or later.

We even made ABC News! Click here for their take on our storm.

In the mean time, mom is almost done with the letters for the quilt. She will show you more tomorrow.

Ice storms can be very pretty, but extremely dangerous. I am glad that you got your power back. It's hard to believe that it will take until the middle of next week to get all the power back on. I realized that many lines must be down, but still.

Oh yuck. We are getting a storm here soon too. I hate ice storms when the power goes out and it gets cold.

Yeah, mine mombean is a little worried about her sister in Mass-a-chew-zits. They didn't have any phone either. They have a franklin stove and lots & lots of wood so we know that they are warm and can heat water & soup & stuff.... She hopes they answer the phone in the morning.

Oh, poor you! We read about the storm in the paper today. We hate ice storms the most. They can be very scary and it's terrible not to have heat and electricity in the winter.

We're glad you're all okay.

The trees look so pretty though don't they? And H-mom remembers getting up in the morning and chipping the ice off her car - at times it was like a giant glazed donut! We aren't worried about that here, just how to deal with our cold snap. This morning at the dog park, it was 56 degrees. BRRRRRRRRRR.

We've been hit by ice storms here in the past. We were without power for 10 days once!!!! TEN DAYS!!! It was incredible.

We saw your area had been hit on the news. Glad to hear your power is restored so quickly and all is well!

Your storm even made the news here in Norway ;) We thought of you and are glad your day turned out okay even if you got yourselves some extra challenges! We were up by the lake and offline so couldn't check your blog until now!
