The story of us - Part Two

When mom was pregnant, Bridget would not let anyone get near her. If they went out for a walk and someone came as close as across the street from her, Brigdet would bark at them to stay away from her mom. Now, according to mom, Bridget was a feisty thing. She'd gone after a chow, two golden retrievers in their own home and mom's brother in law's 120 pound german shepherd (in HIS own home). Mom's brother in-law didn't think it was funny. Muffie was much more relaxed about it, but when she and Bridget fought, Muffie, with longer legs, would climb on Bridget's back. Bridget, being extremely smart, would go under the coffee table. Muffie's head would take a beating and the coffee table would bounce.

Anyway, into this came one small boy. Bridget thought he was her baby. And protected him day and night.

And day and night.

By this time they were nine years old. And everything was hunky dory. Oh, you could tell they were getting old, they got a lot grayer and a lot slower, but that didn't stop them.

Mom found a pug on dogster named Molly Grace whom mom thinks looks like Bridget, especially in this picture. It made mom think of Bridget a lot. Mom didn't cry (phew) but I can tell she misses Bridget.

Everything was going fine until one Saturday when mom knew Bridget wasn't doing well. When Mom woke up the next morning, she knew something was very wrong. She took Bridget to the emergency vet. Bridget had kidney failure and had to go to the Rainbow Bridge. Mom called her sister (Millie's mom) and her mom and they stayed with her when Bridget went to the Bridge. Mom sobbed and sobbed. Bridget was her first dog. And she was 15-1/2 years old. Mom had had her for over ten years.

When mom got home, Muffie thought it was fun being the only dog, getting all the attention. Until a day passed without Bridget. And then another day passed. And another. Mom and Muffie both got depressed.

Meanwhile, though we didn't know it, eleven days after Bridget went to the Bridge, on the anniversary of the day mom and dad met, Lucky was being born.

I am really enjoying reading your story. Bridget and Muffie sound like really good dogs. I like how Bridget really loved the baby.

She was very pretty,I think you are prettier. It's so sad when cats & dogs go to the bridge, even when it's time.
